How to Expand Your Farm

Expanding a My Grass Farm plot feels like the win screen. The before-and-after art even sells it: sparse shoots on one side, a packed rainbow field on the other. Land is still a multiplier on work you already do. If the small rectangle is idle, the big rectangle will be idle with extra walking.

This page assumes you can already cut, process, and hire. If not, use Getting Started and hire workers first.

What expansion actually adds

More tiles of grass mean more hay if something is cutting those tiles. Workers path farther. Stands may sit farther from the silo. Your blade takes longer to clear a lap. That can be good—more product—or bad—more time spent jogging past empty dirt because you expanded before Cut Speed.

Official media shows fenced soil beds. Treat each expansion as another bed that needs a crew, not as a trophy.

The ready-to-expand checklist

  • Cut Speed is high enough that you are not bored on the starter bed.
  • Silo Rate keeps up; hay is not rotting in a pile. See the upgrade tier list.
  • At least one reliable crew is working, ideally Pirate Farmers from codes plus a Farmer you understand.
  • You collected stands this session so you know income is real, not theoretical.
  • You have a Cash reserve after the purchase. The upgrade planner should still have a next rank you can afford.

If any box is unchecked, buy speed or workers instead of land.

Land versus luck versus labor

Three shops compete for the same Cash: land, luck, people. Luck belongs with rare grass. People belong with the worker roster. Land belongs here. The money-fast rule still wins: throughput, then space, then lottery.

A bigger field of starter green with a fast crew beats a tiny field of almost-rainbow you cannot afford to roll again. Make money fast is the sibling page for that argument.

After you buy the tiles

Walk the new edge once. Watch workers. If they camp the old grass, you may need more bodies, not a second expansion. If they spread out and hay explodes, raise Silo Rate immediately. If stands fill at the far corner, add a collection lap to your offline farm checklist.

Do not expand twice in one sitting unless the first expansion is already busy. Pride purchases are how tycoons stall.

Merchant and patches

New Grass Types can make old land more valuable overnight. If a merchant patch ships, read Merchant update before buying another bed of turf you are about to replace. Patch notes is the log.

Scripts that auto-expand

Auto Buy Upgrades can include land if a hub exposes it. That is how people wake up broke. Manual expansion is slower and safer. Scripts is optional reading with a warning, not a requirement for a big farm.

What a healthy large farm looks like

You return from offline to cut-ready hay across the beds, not a decorative park. Cash from processing pays the next blade rank. Rare types, if you have them, occupy space workers actually visit. You are not ashamed of green tiles; green tiles that get cut beat rainbow tiles that do not.

Expand when the fence feels tight because of work, not because of boredom. Then go cut. The farm is the point.

A second-session expansion story

Imagine you redeemed RELEASE, bought two Cut Speed ranks, and came back to hay. That is the moment land starts to make sense, because the crew proved they finish a lap. Buy one expansion, walk the new edge, and watch whether Pirate Farmers actually enter the new soil. If they do, you bought production. If they do not, you bought a screenshot of dirt. Undo the fantasy by hiring coverage from starter workers rather than clicking expand again. The offline farm checklist the same night will tell you if the new tiles were a good idea.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common farm questions.

When should I expand my My Grass Farm land?

After Cut Speed, Silo Rate, and workers keep the current plot busy. If the small field is idle, land will not help.

Is bigger land always more Cash?

Only if something cuts it and hay still processes. Pair expansion with hire workers and the upgrade planner.

Should I expand or buy luck?

Expand for space after throughput is stable. Luck is for rare grass, which is optional early on.

Why did income drop after I bought land?

Workers may be walking more and cutting less. Add crew, raise Cut Speed, and collect distant stands.
